This is what 51 looks like. Today is my birthday and I am 51 years old.
When I turned 30 it was devastating and depressing. Almost embarrassing to admit I was no longer in my 20’s. When I turned 45 I just felt old and aging. Now at 51 there’s a few wrinkles on the face, lots of grey hair and a much wiser woman.
If I could go back and tell younger me anything I would tell her not to worry so much. To do the things you want to do and don’t listen to those who say you can’t. Have confidence in who you are because who you are is ok. And sleep the extra 45 minutes because it’s ok that your hair is curly and wild and crazy and you don’t need to spend 45 minutes of your life everyday trying to make it straight because it isn’t and it never will be. And that's perfectly fine because that's perfectly you.
When your twenty, 51 seems old and a long ways away. But it really didn't take me that long to get here. But you know what, the view is ok and I'm ok with being 51. And today I want to celebrate. I want to celebrate with you. Because we've all had those days when that old pair of jeans felt just a little too tight, the grey hair was showing just a little too much and the laugh lines ran just a little too deep. And we could all use a nice big piece of chocolate cake.
So for this week, the cake is on me. Just for reading this blog post. I'm not posting this offer anywhere else. Make any purchase from my shop this week and use the code THECAKESONME and I'll ship it to you for free (domestic orders only, expires 8/31/18).
Until next time...
Carry a little joy wherever you go.
Oh, and if it's your birthday...Happy birthday too.
